From teaching degree to dual hospitality studies

Originally from Krefeld, Joël moved to Essen for his dual study programme with Motel One. He had first begun a teaching degree, but during the pandemic the fully digital format left him craving practical experience and real contact with people. A part-time job in gastronomy sparked his passion for guest service - and the path to Motel One was set.

From bartender to dual student

A friend staying at Motel One in Frankfurt handed him the decisive business card. At first Joël planned to apply for a traditional apprenticeship, but during the interview it quickly became clear that the dual study programme was a perfect fit. The warm welcome from the manager instantly reassured him—he knew he was in the right place.

Variety, team spirit and One Spirit

Joël loves the mix of theory and practice and appreciates the pleasant working atmosphere, even when things get hectic. What he values most is the strong sense of togetherness: “We all pull together and tackle every situation as a team.” For him, One Spirit sums it up perfectly - taking on challenges together, delighting guests, and reaching daily goals side by side.

Travel, Experience, Grow

Motel One excites Joël with its diversity: every hotel has its own character, and he gains experience across all departments. His favourite benefit is the employee rate, which lets him explore new cities all over Europe and even New York City.
