Study at Motel One

The students will work part-time at a Motel One throughout Europe. The lectures take place online at IU's virtual campus, which gives students access to all learning materials and provides the opportunity to network with fellow students across Europe. The exclusive Motel One class guarantees maximum learning success thanks to the small class size. After three years, students will not only receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in hospitality management, but will have also acquired relevant practical experience.

The International University of Applied Sciences IU is the largest university in Germany, but also one of the most modern learning institutions in all of Europe. With "myStudium", IU has created a digital learning environment that gives students full flexibility. With completely digital content and lectures, study and learning times can be individually scheduled. This allows students to work on the side without having to interrupt their studies. Students attend 3 modules per semester on 2 to 3 days a week. 

Parallel to the program at IU, students will be working part-time (approx. 20-25h/week) at a European Motel One. They will have the opportunity to rotate through various departments of the hotel:

• Front Office & Reservation
• Food & Beverage Service
• Housekeeping
• Sales & Administration

Selection process

In general, it is important that you are enthusiastic about the hotel industry and have already gained some initial experience. If you don't have any hotel industry experience, you can complete a one-week internship at Motel One before you start your studies

In addition, you should feel addressed by the following points:

• Strong English proficiency (another foreign language is an advantage)
• Willingness to work across departments
• Independence and self-organization

Tuition & pay

Motel One covers all study costs at the private university IU. In addition, students receive an appropriate salary and take part in the Motel One incentive program. The incentive is paid four times a year in addition to the salary. The amount of the payments depends on the guest satisfaction in their own Motel One.

Career opportunities

Motel One is a dynamic and internationally growing hotel chain. Within the next three years alone, more than 10 new hotels will open in different countries. This also opens up exciting career prospects throughout Europe for our students. Talented students with ambitions can quickly be promoted to supervisor or head of department after graduation.

In addition, students have the opportunity to take German courses through our cooperation with Babbel and eventually pursue a career in Germany, Motel One's strongest market.

Motel One offers a dual study programme in Germany. The Bachelor of Arts programme in Tourism Management with a focus on hotel management lasts three and a half years. Students are employed at Motel One and receive similar training to apprentices, acquainting themselves with the various departments at a German Motel One. IU International University of Applied Sciences lectures take place at the One Campus in Munich. Motel One students are in their own separate class. Participants need to have a university entrance qualification and speak German at C1 level. 

Motel One offers a total of three different apprenticeships in Germany and Austria: hotel manager, hotel administrator, and specialist in the hospitality industry. The practical part of the apprenticeship takes part at a Motel One, which allows you to learn more about the hotel’s different departments. Apprentices also attend local vocational schools. You will need a valid work permit and B2-level German skills to complete an apprenticeship in Germany or Austria. 

Motel One offers a variety of internships for both pupils and students. Interns are employed by the respective Motel One, and internships are not advertised in the job portal.
